PARENTS
At Higher Horizons, parents are involved in all aspects of the program. Parents support the administrative staff in decisions that impact program operations, strategic planning and requests for funding. For instance, parents are full participants in the selection of new Head Start staff. Opportunities for parent involvement also include volunteering in the classroom and participating in center and training activities.
Head Start Specialists, Family Service Advocates
and Social Work interns work closely with each Head
Start family to provide support, referral services
and crisis intervention. A Family Service Advocate
or intern is assigned to work with children and families
in each Head Start classroom in accordance with
Head Start Performance Standards.
Parents are also offered an opportunity to develop
and implement individualized family partnership agreements.
The family and community partnership staff work with
families throughout the year to assist them in identifying
goals, opportunities and community resources and the
support necessary to achieve these goals. Each family
receives a community resource directory and is encouraged
to develop on-going relationships with agencies within
the community.
